Surplus OS
A downloadable operating system for Windows
Surplus OS is many things depending on the story you listen to, the most impressive of which is fiction. This story describes Surplus OS as an operating system created by Techmore Corp. on Friday, May 15th, 2015 for their own specific PC-based computer platform. This platform was modeled after vintage hardware of the 1990's, similar in spec. to long since unsupported Microsoft Windows 95 and 98 systems. These Surplus OS machines had a custom-built, proprietary BIOS, custom file reading device called an Image Reader (most similar to an optical\CD-ROM\DVD-ROM drive), did NOT require a mouse, and had a software overhead SO low that the last public release required a MINIMUM of 128 MEGABYTES of RAM. For users that didn't want a physical system, or wanted to try the software before committing to the purchase, a virtual machine solution was made available for Microsoft Windows 7 or higher. This is about where the made up tale ends however, as even though third-party developers existed, the company couldn't stay afloat from the little profit the systems and software made. As a result, the decision to sell Surplus OS to us (The Shaggy39 Studio) was finalized during Surplus OS – Version 3's development, before the company fizzled out completely.
As previously stated though, this story is anything but the truth. The REAL story is that I, Shaggy39, made Surplus OS during my middle school days, as Batch (Windows Command Prompt scripts) was the first programming language I taught myself.

Install instructions
Extract the ZIP file to "%userprofile%\Documents"
Note that this is NOT your documents "library", but a FOLDER called "Documents" in your user profile folder. If you have OneDrive installed and an account "linked", your documents library might point to "C:\Users\...\OneDrive\Documents" which is NOT the right location. The same is also true if your documents library is in a different location than the default, like on another drive.
Note that Surplus OS – Version 3 requires a modified VM launcher to support Windows 11, please use the patcher to run it on Windows versions newer than 10. Windows 7 is the minimum supported version (officially (though Vista works)), even with the patcher.
